Telephone Lines Visual Poetry
Client: International Society of Typographic Designers
Inspired by concrete poetry and experimental type, this work explores how typographic and phone lines both act as transporters of information. It explores how to visually communicate the distortions and audio quirks that happen when speaking through a telephone.
For this work I have been granted membership of the ISTD through the student assessment scheme.
The final publication is comprised of two pieces, one which visualises Under a Telephone Pole by Carl Sandburg and The Pylons by Stephen Spender. They are both 6000mm x 170mm which is the rough dimensions of a telephone pole.
The long unwinding scroll invites the reader into the publication to connect with the piece as they explore it, creating a unique experience for each reader as they unwind the whole thing or read sections of it at a time.
